Reading words with आ (part 5)

Today, we complete the third reading exercise for May.  We are looking at this sentence:

झट पट गज पर चढ़ कर घर तल।

Let us look at each of these letters so that you can learn the sounds:

क = ka

ग = ga

घ = gha

च = cha

ज = ja

झ = jha

ट = ta (tongue touches the ridge in the mouth)

ढ़ = rd as in “bird

त = ta (tongue touches to teeth)

प = pa

र = ra

ल = la

    Hello, I’ve been studying from Rupert Snell’s “teach yourself beginner’s hindi script”, and he has that च=ca (but with the example of eschew, where the ch sound is च) and छ = cha - I see you have च = cha.

    I’m just starting learning the devanagari, but I’m confused as to the pronunciation of च, and how it is different than छ, in my creation of flashcards I’d prefer to have it correct in my mind.
