Everyday you use some electric appliance. They have become part of our everyday life. How often do you talk about the television, radio, fan, lamp, computer, etc. Most of the English words these items are widely understood. However, there are a few Hindi alternatives that could be worth while to learn.

There are lots of different vehicles you will see in India. You will see cars, buses, trucks, and scooters. But you will also see less familiar things, like the auto rickshaw. During my visit to Mumbai, we used the Auto Rickshaw a lot to get a round. You will see many of them lined up ready to take you were you need to go.

What are you likely to see in the water? Perhaps a turtle, a whale, a dolphin, a fish, a frog? But what if there was a shark in the water at the beach? People are saying: “A shark! A shark!” But in Hindi! Might be useful to know the Hindi word. That is what we learn in today’s ISpeakHindi.com episode.

Did you see जल in the word for “water animals”? जल (jal) is another word for water. It is not as common as पानी (paanii). जल (jal) also conveys a sense of sacredness. Which would make sense when referring to something with life.

India has many jungles and forests that contain very amazing animals. Do you know how to say their names in Hindi? After today’s lesson, you will know the Hindi words for tiger, elephant, lion and several other wild animals.
All the pictures below except for the monkey are from a 2005 trip to a zoo in Mumbai, India. The monkey was from Mumbai as well, but he belonged to a performer at the beach. You can see some more pictures of him performing at the bottom of the lesson.
