 How does it look?

Line at the top.  Little line in the middle coming down.  The a hook to the left.  At the very end of the hook a loop back on itself that does not go through the hook.

How to type it?

If you are using a US English keyboard with the standard Devanagari/Hindi layout, then you would press “{“

Words

At the Beginning

ढकना – to cover

ढक्कन – cover (of a pot)

ढलना – to set (as in sun is setting)

ढोलक – a type of dum (can be beaten on both sides)

ढहना – to collapse, to fall to piece

ढब – proper conduct

ढलान – slope

In the Middle

ढमढम – sound of drumming

At the End

ढूँढ  – search

With other vowels

ढोल – drum

ढोना – to carry, to convey

ढिंढोरा – to proclaim

Words that you need to find with example sentences:

हम  – we

हम ठीक हैं। – We are OK.

हम तैयार हैं। – We are ready.

 

वह  – that, it, he, she

वह ठीक है।  He is OK.  (Could also mean “She is OK.”)

वह मेरी बहिन है। She is my sister.

 

घर – house (m)

वह मेरा घर है।  That is my house.

आपका घर कहाँ है? Where is your house?

 

यह – this, it, he, she

यह क्या है?  What is this?

यह मेरा खाना है।  This is my food.

 

छह – six (छै  and छः also represent six)

मुझे छह भाई हैं।  I have six brothers.

वे छह घर हैं। There are six houses.

 

हर – every/each

[female speaker] हर दिन मैं हिंदी सीखती हूँ।  Everyday I study Hindi.

[male speaker] हर दिन मैं हिंदी सीखता हूँ।  Everyday I study Hindi.

हर घर में दरवाज़ा है। In every house there is a door.

 

मन – mind (m)

मन की बात सुनो। Listen to your mind.

 

अब – now

अब हम आपके घर चलते हैं। Now we go to your house.

उसमें पंचकल्याणी गाय होने के सभी लक्षण थे।

उसमें – in her

पंचकल्याणी – blessed  (literarily means 5 benefits (see पंच which means 5 and then कल्याणी which means benefits))

गाय (feminine) – cow

होने – to be

के – of

सभी – all

लक्षण (masculine)- signs

थे – were

 

Other examples of using some of these words:

उसमें – in her, in him, in it.

 

उसमें गुलाब की सुगंध है।

In it there is the rose fragrance.

 

होने – to be

 

मुझे वकील होना है।

I want to be a lawyer.

 

सभी – all

यहाँ सभी आते हैं।

They all come here.

कुंडल  – type of big ear ring

सैंडल – sandal

At the End

सूँड – dried ginger

काण्ड – chapter (in a book)

चण्ड मुण्ड – name of a deamon

गुड्डा – boy doll

गुड्डी – girl doll

मुंडा – bald or shaven head

मुंडन – first, ceremonial, shaving of a child’s head

उसका – her, his, its

उसका नाम गौरी है। (Her name is Gourii.)

उसका नाम राम है। (His name is Ram.)

 

रंग – color (masculine)

मुझे वह रंग पसंद है। (I like that color.)

 

हलका – light (as in color)

हलका लाल – light red

हलका हरा – light green

 

भूरा – brown

वह भूरा घर है। (That is a brown house.)

 

था – was

वह घर हलका भूरा था। (That house was light brown.)

 

और – and

 

 

आँखें – eyes

आँख – eye

 

उसकी आंखें भूरी हैं। (Her eyes are brown.)

 

चमकीली – shinning

उसके दाँत चमकीले हैं। (His/her teeth are shinning.)
