Did you listen to Sonia read the The Lion and the Mouse story?  Today, we have Sonia on the program to explain the story.  Below is the Hindi for the story so you can follow along:

एक शेर था।  वह अपनी गुफा में सोया हुआ था।  वहाँ एक चूहा आया। अनजाने में वह शेर के शरीर पर चढ़ गया और लगा उछलने-कूदने।

शेर की नींद टुट गई। वह गुस्से से दहाड़ उठा।  सारा जंगल काँप गया।  चूहा डर से थर्राने लगा।

“किसने मेरी नींद लोड़ने की हिम्मत की?” शेर ने गरजकर कहा।  उसने इधर-उधर देखा।  उसे एक छोटा-सा चूहा दिखाई पड़ा।

चूहे को पकड़कर शेर ने कहा, “तूने मेरी नींद तोड़ी। मैं तुझे मार डालूँगा।”

चूहे ने गिड़गिड़ाते हुए कहा, “महाराज! मुझे माफ कर दें।  मुझसे अलजाने में गलती हुई।  मैं जिंदा रहा तो कभी-न-कभी आपकी मदद करूँगा।”

शेर हँसने लगा।  उसने कहा, “मैं इतना बड़ा हूँ।  मैं जंगल का राजा हूँ।  तू कितना छोटा और कमजोर है।  भला, तू मेरी क्या मदद करेगा?”

शेर दयालु था।  उसने चूहे को छोड़ दिया।

बहुत दिनों बाद शेर एक जाल में फँस गया।  उसने बहुत कोशिस की लेकिन वह जाल से निकल न सका पीड़ा और डर से वह जोर से दहाड़ने लगा।

चूहे ने शेर की दहाड़ सुनी।  वह दौड़ता हुआ शेर के पास पहुँचा।  उसने शेर से कहा, “महाराज!  आप चिंता न करें।  मैं अभी इस जाल को काटकर आपको छुड़ाता हूँ।”

चूहे ने अपने नुकीले और पैने दाँतों से जाल को कोट डाला शेर जाल से छूट गया।

शेर बोला, “शाबास! मेरे मित्र! तू छोटा है फिर भी तूने मेरी बहुत सहायता की। तूने मेरी जान बचाई।  आज से हम दोनों मित्र हैं।”
