I. Words ending  with  ल

कल (Kal) Tomorrow

मैं कल आपके घर अवश्य आऊंगा|

(Main kal aapkey ghar avashya aaunga.)

I will certainly come to your house tomorrow.

 

कल (Kal) also means “yesterday”

कल से मुझे बुखार है|

(Kal sey mujhe bukhaar hai.)

I have fever from yesterday.

 

 कल की घटना भूल जाओ|

(Kal kee ghatna bhul jaaon.)

Forget yesterday’s incidence.

 

कल (kal) also means “water tap”.


 

गल (gal) – melt

बर्फ गल रहा है|

(Barf gal raha hai.)

The ice is melting.

हिम (him) also means “ice/snow.” हिमपात (himpaat) means snowfall.


 

चल (chal) – walk

घर चल|

(ghar chal.)

Go home. (command)


 

छल (chal) cheat

छल-कपट बुरी आदत है|

(Chhal-kapat buree aadat hai.)

Cheating/fraud is a bad habit.

दगा (daga) or धोखा (Dhokha) also means fraud in Hindi. जालसाज़ (Jaalsaaj) means Chal.


 

जल (jal) – water – also known as पानी (paanii)

जल (jal) – water – also known as पानी (paanee)

जल स्वच्छ / शुद्ध है |

(Jal swatchh/shuddh hai.)

The water is clean/pure.

Jal means नीर(neer) or पानी (paanee) or सलील(salil). But if you write जाल Jaal means net./trap Thus one additional stroke(Maatra |) will change the meaning in Hindi/Devanagari.


 

टल (tal) – avert

अब खतरा टल गया है|

(Ab khatra tal gaya hai.)

The danger is averted now.

Please note: DANGER word in Hindi is also known as . संकट (sankat) or विपत्ति (vipatti) or कंटक (Kantak) or जोखिम (jokhim) which can also mean “risk”.


ढल (dhal) – coming off, becoming aged

सूरज ढल रहा है|

(Sooraj dhal raha hai.)

The sun is setting in.

It means also सूर्यास्त हो रहा है| (suryaast ho raha hai.) Similarly for aging, you can use उम्र ढल रहा है| (umra dhal raha hai).

Sun is also known as सुर्य (Soorya)


 

तल (tal) – surface

तल नरम है|

(Tal naram hai.)

The surface is soft.

तल is also known as सतह (satah).


 

थल (thal) – earth or land

थल दिन पर दिन गर्म होता जा रहा है|

(Thal din par din garam hota jaa raha hai.)

The earth is becoming hot day by day.


 

नल (nal) – tap (faucet)

नल से पानी टपकता है|

(Nal se paani tapakta hai.)

The water  drips from the tap.


 

पल (pal) – moment    It is also called;क्षण  (kshan)

पल भर में क्या हो गया?

(pal bhar mein kya ho gaya?)

What  happened in a moment?


 

बल (bal) – strength or power

बल से ज्यादा बुद्धि का उपयोग करना चाहिए|

(Bal se jyaada buddhi ka upyog karna chaahiye.)

The intelligence (wisdom बुद्धि) should be used more than strength.

बल means ताकत   strength  & power  but power also means electricity i.e. विद्युत् or current. Besides, उपयोग (upyog) can be reworded as प्रयोग (prayog) or इस्तेमाल (istemaal)


 

मल (mal) excreta

रोज मलमूत्र से छुटकारा पाना बेहतर है|

(roaj malmutr se chutkaara paana behatar hai.)

It is better to get rid of excreta daily.


 

हल (hal) – plough

खेत में हल का प्रयोग करो|

(khet mein hal ka prayog karo.)

Use the plough in the farm.


 

II. Words ending in आल

 

काल (kaal) of tense (consists of present, past and future वर्तमान, भूत, भविष्य)

काल के गाल हो जाना।

(kaal gey gaal ho jaana)

(is an idoms/phrases)Ve kaal ke gaal ho gaye. They died.  (मर जाना (Mar jaana) = to die.)

So many words are there in Hindi for to die: मृत्यु होना / निधन होना / अल्लाह को प्यारा होना / देहावसान होना / शरीर त्याग देना / मौत होना


 

खाल (khaal) – skin or चमड़ा (chamada ) or त्वचा (twatcha) or चर्म (charm)

भारत में जानवरों के खाल का सौदा करना निषिद्ध (prohibited) or अवैध ( avaiddh) या गैर कानूनी (illegal) है|

(Bharat mein jaanwaron ke khaal ka sauda karna nishiddh ya avaiddh ya gaiyr kanoonee hai.)

The trading of animal skins in India is prohibited or illegal.

Trade also means व्यापार Vyaapaar= सौदा sauda .

 

गाल (gaal) – cheeks

तुम्हारे गाल लाल हो गए हैं|

(Tumhare gaal laal ho gaye hain.)

Your cheeks have become red.

कुछ also means थोड़ी. (slightly or some)


 

छाल (chaal) – bark

पेड़ की छाल बहुत पुरानी (old) है|

(Ped ki chaal bahut purani hai.)

The bark of the tree is very old.


जाल (jaal) – net

शिकारी दाना डालकर पक्षियों को जाल में पकड़ लेता है|

(shikari dana daalkar pakshiyon ko jaal mein pakad leta hai.)

The hunter catches the bird in net by giving grains/feed.

Or basically it means the hunters traps the birds in net alluring them for grains.

 

टाल (taal) – shirk or avoid or escape

बात टालने की चेष्टा मत करो|

(Baat taalney kee cheshta mat karo.)

Don’t try to avoid talking.


डाल (daal) – branch (also शाखा or टहनी)

पेड़ की डाल कमजोर है|

(Ped ki daal kamjoar hai.)

The branch of the tree is weak.


ढाल (dhaal) – shield (also कवच (kawatch))

तीर या तलवार की चोट से ढाल रक्षा कर सकती है|

(Teer ya talwaar kee choat sey dhal raksha kar saktee hai.)

The shield can protect from the injury of arrow or sword.


ताल (taal) – rhythm (also लय (lay))

ताल से ताल मिलाएं|

(taal se taal milayen.)

थाल (thaal) – plate/tray (also तश्तरी)

थाल में खाना परोस दो|

(Thaal mein khaana paros do.)

Serve the food on the plate.


दाल (dal) – pulse/lentil

दाल में नमक नहीं है|

(Daal mein namak nahin hai.)

There is no salt in the pulse(lentil)

 

नाल – (naal) – horse shoe

घोडे के नाल की अंगूठी बनवाकर कुछ भारतीय उसे अंगुली में पहन लेते हैं|

(Ghodey key naal kee angoothi banwakar kuchh Bharateeya usey anguli mein pahan letey hain.)

The ring made out of horse shoe is put on finger by some Indians.

Information: Several Indians also use ring made of the iron nails of a ship which remained in sea for long period. It is believed that it saves from troubles/agony of Saturn (supposed to be 7 ½ years minimum in a person’s life cycle at a stretch certainly once) planet on respective star constellations of an individual .


बाल (baal) – hair

बालों में क्या तुमने मेहंदी लगा रखी है?

(Balon mein kya tumney mehandi laga rakhi hai?)

Have you applied henna in the hair?

 

माल (maal) items/stock/articles  (also सामान (saamaan.)


आज कितने का माल जहाज से आएगा?

(Aaj kitney ka maal jahaad se aayega.)

How much worth articles would arrive from the ship today?


 

राल (raal) – greediness

पैसे को देख कर उसके मुंह से राल टपकने लगी|

(Paise ko dekhkar uskay munh se raal tapakaney lagee.)

Seeing money, he became greedy. ( water started coming out  from  his mouth)


 

लाल (lal) – red

खून का रंग लाल है|

(Khoon ka rang lal hai.)

The colour of blood is red.

खून means (अर्थ) = रक्त.


शाल (shawl) – shawl

मुझे ठण्ड लग रही है, शाल से ओढ दो|

(Mujhe thand lag rahee hai, shawl se oadh do.)

I am feeling cold, cover (wrap) me with shawl.


 

साल (saal) – year

अभी इस साल के कितने महीने शेष/ बाकी हैं?

(Abhee is saal ke kitney mahiney  shesh/baaki hain?)

How many months  remain(balance) now in this year.

बाकी means शेष


हाल (haal) – recently

हाल ही मैं मैने आपको ३०० रुपये उधार दिए थे|

(Haal he mein mainey aapko ३०० रूपए udhaar diye tthey.)

Recently only ,I had given you a loan of Rs. 300/-.


 

Homework:

Try out some two letter words, ending with a particular alphabet.  Choose some words that end with a maatra (vowel) before the last letter, and others that do not have a vowel before the last letter.  Add them as comments to this lesson.
