{Suresh 173}: Story of Eklavya from the Mahabharata  महाभारत से एकलव्य  की कहानी (Mahabharata se Eklavy kee kahanee)

अनुवाद(Anuwaad)Translation

द्रोणाचार्य  के आश्रम (hermitage) के पास ,एकलव्य नामक  एक लड़का  रहा करता था |

(Dronacharya kea ashram ke paas,  Eklavy  naamak ek ladka

raha karta tha.)

A boy called Eklavya  used to  live near the cottage of Dronacharya,.

एकलव्य  को द्रोणाचार्य से तीरंदाजी (archery) की कला (art) सीखने  की तीव्र( intense )

इच्छा ( desire ) थी|

(Eklavy ko Dronacharya se teerandaazee kee kala seekhney

kee teevr icchha thee.)

Eklavya had an  intense desire to learn the art of archery from  Dronacharay.

एकलव्य  की माँ  ने एकलव्य को पहले ही सलाह  ( advice ) दी थी  कि उसे ऐसे

सपने (dreams) नहीं देखने  चाहिए  चूँकि वे  नीचे जाति ( शूद्र ) के  थे|

(Eklavy kee maan ney Elavya ko pahle hee salaah dee thee ki usey aise

sapnay nahin dekhnay chahiye choonki ve neechey jati(shudr) ke they.

Eklavya’s mother  had earlier advised Eklavya not to  see such  dreams

since they belonged to a lower caste (Shudra).

एकलव्य  ने उसके घर के पास के एक  पेड़ के  नीचे द्रोणाचार्य की एक मिट्टी की

मूर्ति (Idol) स्थापित की (established) |

(Eklavya nay uskay ghar ke paas kay ek payd ke neechey Dronocharya

kee  ek mittee kee moorti shapit kee.

Eklavya installed a clay idol of Dronacharya near his house under a tree.

उसने धनुष और तीर के  तीरंदाजी में  स्वयं (self) सबक (lesson) सीखना जारी रखा|

Usnay dhanush aur teereadaazee mein swayang sabak seekhna jaaree rakha.

He continued his self-learning lessons in the art of arrow and bow.

एक दिन आचार्य द्रोण और अर्जुन एकलव्य की झोपड़ी (hut) के पास से गुजरे ( went past ) |

(Ek din Aaachry Drone  evam Arjun Eklavya kee jhonpadee ke paas se gujarey.

One day Acharya Drona and Arjuna  went past near the hut of Eklavya.

सुखद (pleasant) और शांतिपूर्ण  ( peaceful ) दोपहर थी जब लोग  आराम   ( rest ) कर  रहे थे|

(Sukhad aur shaantipurn dopahar thee jab log aaraam kar rahey they.

It was  a pleasant and peaceful afternoon when people were taking rest.

.

लेकिन एक कुत्ते की लगातार  ( constant ) भौंकने (barking) से शांति ( peace )  भंग ( broken )  हो गयी थी|

(Lekin ek kuttey kee lagaataar bhaunkmey se shanty bhang ho gayee thee.)

But the tranquility /peace was broken by constant barking of a dog.

एकलव्य को   यह पसंद नहीं आया |

(Eklavy ko yah pasand nahin aaya.)

Eklavya did not like this.

इसलिए  ( therefore ) उसने  तीर से  कुत्ते की मुंह ( mouth ) को बंद ( shut ) कर दी |

(Isliye usay teer se kuttey kee munh ko band kar dee.)

He , therefore,  shut the mouth of the dog with arrows.

द्रोणाचार्य और अर्जुन  तीर से कुत्ते  के मुँह (mouth) को बंद देखकर हैरान (surprised) थे|

(Dronacharya aur Arjun  teer se khuttey ke munh ko band dekhar hairaan they.)

Dronacharya and Arjuna were surprised to see the dog ‘s mouth sealed with arrows.

अर्जुन और द्रोणाचार्य  जानना चाहते थे  कि किसने  यह  कुशल( skillful )  कार्य किया था|

(Arjun aur dronacharya  janana chahtey they kie kisnay yah kushal kaary kiya tha)

Arjuna and Dronacharya  wished   to know that  who had done this skillful act.

वे  उस स्थान पर पहुँच गए  जहाँ  ( where ) एकलव्य द्रोण की मिट्टी  ( clay ) की  छवि( image )  के सामने में

अपने तीर  और धनुष के साथ  अभ्यास (practise) कर रहा था|

Vey us than par pahunch  gaye jahan Eklavy Drone ke mittee kee chavi ke

saamany apnay teer evam dhanush ke saath abhyaas kar rahaa tha.

They reached at that  spot where Eklavya was practicing with his arrows and bow

in front of the clay image of Drona.

उन्होंने महसूस ( realized )किया   कि कुछ मामलों   ( respects ) में एकलव्य

अर्जुन से बेहतर  ( superior ) था|

(Unhoney mahsoos kiya ki kuchh mamlon mein Eklavya

Arjun se  behtar tha.)

He realized that Eklavya was superior to Arjuna in some respects.

द्रोणाचार्य  को अर्जुन से बहुत प्यार था और उसे धरती  ( earth ) पर सबसे अच्छा तीरंदाज

घोषित  ( declared )किया  था|

(Dronacharya ko Arjun se bahut pyaar tha aur usey  dhartee par sabsey

acchha teeandaaz ghoshit kiya tha .)

Dronacharya loved Arjuna very much and had declared him to be

the best archer on the earth.

द्रोणाचार्य ने  एकलव्य  को  अर्जुन के एक प्रतियोगी (Competitor) के रूप में देखकर उसे

हटाने  ( remove ) का निश्चय ( decide )  कर लिया |

(Dronacharya   ney Eklavya ko Arjun ke ek praiyogee ke roop

mein dekhkar usey hataaney ka nishcay kar  liya .)

Seeing Eklavya as a competitor to Arjuna  ,Dronacharya  decided to remove him.

द्रोणाचार्य ने एकलव्य से  पूछा ( asked )  कि  तुम्हारा गुरु कौन है ?

(Dronacharya ney Eklavy se poocha ki tumhaara guru kaun hai?

Dronacharya asked Eklavya  that  who is your Guru (preceptor/teacher)?

उसने अपनी सफलता ( success )   का श्रेय ( attributed /credit )  अपने गुरु द्रोणाचार्य को दिया|

Usany apnee safalata ka shrey  apney guru dronacharya ko diya.

He attributed his success to his Guru Dronacharya.

मैं आपको गुरु के रूप में पूजा करता हूँ |

(Main aapko guru ke roop mein pooja karta huun .

I worship you as my Guru .

द्रोणाचार्य ने  उसे आशीर्वाद दिया|

(Dronacharya ney usey aashirwaad diya.)

Dronacharya blessed him.

गुरू द्रोण ने कहा कि मैं चाहता हूँ कि तुम मेरी गुरुदक्षिणा   ( fee  to master ) के रूप में अपने

दाहिने ( right )  हाथ का  अंगूठा ( thumb )   दे दो|

(Guru Drone nay kaha ki main chahta huun ki  tum meree

gurudakshina ke roop mein apnay dahinay haath ka angootha de do.)

(Guru Droan said that I want that you give me the thumb of your right

hand in the form of fee (Gurudakshina),

शांति ( tranquility/peace )  , विनम्रता ( humility )  , खुशी के साथ, और विरोध ( protest )

के बिना ( without ) , उसने अपने दाहिने अंगूठे को काटकर द्रोणाचार्य के पैर पर रखा|

(Shaanti , khushee  aur vinamrata ke ssath, aur virodh ke bina,

usnay apney dahiney angoothey ko kaatkar Dronachary ke payr par rakha.)

With due tranquility , humility, happiness and without protest, after

cuttting ( chopping )  his right thumb he  placed at the feet of Dronacharya.
