{Suresh 295} Suffixes प्रत्यय ( Pratyay)
DEFINITION:
प्रत्यय- जो शब्दांश शब्दों के अंत में लगकर उनके अर्थ को बदल देते हैं वे प्रत्यय कहलाते हैं|
(PRATYAY)- Jo shabdaansh shabdon ke ant mein lagkar unkay arth ko badal detey hain, ve pratyay kahlaatey hain.)
Syllable which when added towards the end of the words change their meaning, they are called suffixes.
EXAMPLE: जलज ( jALAJ WHICH TAKES BIRTH IN WATER ) OR पंकज ( PANKAJ) – WHICH TAKES BIRTH IN SLUDGE/MUD/SLUSH = कमल (KAMAL) =LOTUS
पन (pan) लड़का (ladka) boy = लड़कपन (ladakpan) adulthood
पन (pan) बालक (baalak) child = बालपन (baalpan) childhood
पन (pan) बच्चा (bachha) child = बचपन ( bachpan = childhood
ई (i) धन (dhan) money = धनी (dhanee) rich
ई (i) गरीब((gareeb) poor= = गरीबी ( gareebee ) poverty
ई (i) क्रोध (kroadh) anger = क्रोधी kroadhee) angry
ऊ (oo) बाजार (baazaar) market = बाजारू (baazaaroo) marketable
लु (lu) कृपा (krupa) generosity = कृपालु (krupaalu) generous
लु (lu) दया (daya) kindness) = दयालु (dayaalu) kind
आई (aayee) भला (bhalaa) kind = भलाई (bhalaayee) well being
आई (aayee) चतुर (chatur) clever = चतुराई chaturayee) intelligence
आर (aar) सोना (sonaa) gold = सुनार (sunaar ) Goldsmith
आर (aar) लोहा (loha) iron = लुहार (luhaar) blacksmith
आल (aal) ससुर ( Sasur) father-in-law = ससुराल (sasuraal) in-law’s house
इया (iya) रसोई (rasoyee) kitchen = रसोइया (rasoiyaa) cook/chef
इया (iya) दुःख (dukh) sorrow = दुखिया (dukhiya) sad
हाल (haal)) नानी (nanee) maternal grandmother=ननिहाल (nanihaal) maternal grandmother’s house
एरा (era) मामा (maamaa) maternal uncle = ममेरा (mamera) belonging to maternal uncle
एरा (era) चाचा chaachaa) (paternal uncle) =चचेरा ((belonging to paternal uncle)
वाला (waala) फल (fal) fruit =फलवाला (falwaala ) fruit vendor/seller
क (k) लेख (lekh) write up = लेखक (lekhak) writer
ई (i) पुत्र (putr) son = पुत्री (putree) daughter
इक (ek) दिन (din) day = दैनिक (dainik) daily
शाली (shalee) शक्ति (shakti) energy = शक्तिशाली (shaktshalee) powerful
तया (tya) साधारण (saadhaaran ) common = साधारणता (saadhaaranta) simplicity
पूर्वक (purvak) विधि (vidhi) method = विधिपूर्वक (methodical)
