कहावतें ( Kahavaein)
प्यासा कुएँ के पास जाता है | ( Pyaasaa kuen key paas jaataa hai.)
It means:The thirsty person goes to the well..
बिना परिश्रम सफलता नहीं मिलती। ( Bina parishram safaltaa nahin miltee. )
Success does not come without hard work.
कोई भी जंजीर ( chain) अपने कमजोर कड़ी (link) से अधिक मजबूत नहीं होती।
( koyee bhee zanzeer apney kamzor kadee se adhik majboot nahin hotee.)
A chain is not more stronger than its weakest link.
कायर ( coward) आदमी अपनी मौत से पहले हजारों बार मरता है।
( Kaayar aadmee apnee maut se pahley hazaaron baar marta hai.)
A coward man dies a thousand times before his death.
नाक कटी पर घी तो चाटा | ( naak katee par ghee to chaata.)
Lost reputation/prestige/respect but licked at least clarified butter. It means
लाभ के लिए निर्लज्ज ( shameless) हो जाना।
( laabh ke liye nirlazz ho jaanaa. )
To become shameless for benefits.
नया नौ दिन पुराना सौ दिन | ( naya nau din puraanaa sau din.)
New nine days, old hundred days. It means:
साधारण ज्ञान होने से अनुभव होने का अधिक महत्व होता है।
( Saadhaaran gyaan honey se anubhav honay ka adhik mahatv hota hai.)
Experience is more important than the general knowledge.
न रहेगा बॉंस( bamboo) , न बजेगी बाँसुरी ( flute) |
( Na rahegaa baans, na bajegee baansuree. )
Neither bamboo will be there, nor the flute will be played. It means
ऐसी परिस्थिति ( situation) जिसमें काम न हो सके।
( Aisee paristhiti jismein kaam na ho sakey.)
Such situation in which work can not be accomplished/done.
नानी के टुकड़े खावे, दादी का पोता ( grand son) कहावे |
( Naanee key tukadey khaave, daadee ka potaa kahaavey.)-
Eating food of mother’s mother but called grandmother(father’s
mother’s son) son.. It means:
खाना किसी का, गाना किसी का। ( Khaanaa kisee ka, gaanaa kisee ka. )
Eating someone’s food but singing (praising) somebody else.
नीम हकीम ( quacks) खतरे में जान | ( Neem hakem khatarey mein jaan. )
With quacks, life is at risk. Little knowledge is a dangerous thing. It means
अनुभवहीन ( inexperienced) व्यक्तियों के हाथों कार्य बिगड़ (hamper) सकता है।
( Anubhavheen vyaktiyon ke haathon kaary bigad saktaa hai.)
The work can hamper in the hands of inexperienced persons.
नदी किनारे (river bank) रूखड़ा ( rough) जब-तब होय विनाश |
( nadee kinaarey rukhadaa jab-tab hoy vinaash.)
Roughness at river-bank leads to destruction now and then. It means:
नदी के किनारे (side) के वृक्ष ( tree) का कभी भी नाश (destruction) हो सकता है।
( Nadee ke kinarey ke vruksh ka kabhee bhee naash ho saktaa hai.)
The trees along the riverside can get destroyed any time.
