{Suresh 356} Proverbs = कहावतें (kahavatein)
धनवंती (rich person) को काँटा ( thorn) लगा दौड़े लोग हजार | ( Dhanvantee ko kaantaa lagaa
daudey loag hazaar.) If a thorn pricks a rich person, thousand people rush in/come running.
It means
धनी आदमी को थोड़ा सा भी कष्ट (sufferings) हो तो बहुत लोग उनकी सहायता को आ जाते
हैं। ( Dhanee aadhmee ko thodaa saa bhee kasht ho to bahut loag unkee
sahataa ko aa jaatey hain. ) if a rich person suffers a little bit,
a lot of people come for his rescue/aid.
दुधारू गाय की लात ( kick) सहनी पड़ती है | ( Doodhaaru gaay kee laat sahnee padtee hai.)
Need to bear the kick of milching cow(cow giving milk). It means
जिससे लाभ होता है, उसकी धौंस ( threat) भी सहनी पड़ती है। ( Jisasey laabh hota hai,
uskee dhauns bhee sahnee padtee hai. ) From who you are benefitted,
need to bear the threat too.
दो लड़े तीसरा ले उड़े | ( Do ladey teesraa ley udey.) if two fight,
third is benefited. It means: दो की लड़ाई में तीसरे का लाभ होना। ( Do kee ladaayee mein teesrey kaa laabh hona. )
In the fight of two, third gets the advantage.
दोनों हाथों में लड्डू | ( Donon haath mein laddu.) Sweet balls in both the hands. सभी प्रकार से लाभ ही लाभ। ( Win-win ( all the types of advantage) from all the way.
देसी कुतिया ( bitch) विलायती ( forein) बोली | ( Desee kuttiya vilaaytee bolee.)
Indian bitch talks foreign language. दिखावा करना। ( Dikhaavaa karna.) To show off.
धूप में बाल सफ़ेद नहीं किए हैं | ( Dhoop mein baal safed nahin kiya hain. ) Not done the grey
hair in the sun. it means. अनुभवी होना। (anubhavee honaa. ) To be experienced.
धन्ना ( rich) सेठ के नाती बने हैं | ( Dhanna seth ke naatee baney hain. )
To consider grandson of a rich person. It means अपने को अमीर (rich) समझना। ( Apney ko ameer samajhnaa.) Self-proclaimed rich.
धोबी रोवे धुलाई ( washing) को, मियाँ ( husband) रोवे कपड़े को |
( Dhobee rovey dhulaayee ko, miyaan rovey kapdey ko. )
The washerman cries for washing, husband cries for clothes.
It means: सब अपने ही नुकसान की बात करते हैं | ( Sab apney hee nuksaan kee baat kartey hain.)
