{Suresh 378} Story of an old tiger and a greedy Brahmin ( traveller)
बाघ एवं लालची ब्राह्मण ( पथिक ) की कहानी ( Baagh evam laalchee Brahman ( pathik kee kahaanee)

एक दिन, एक बाघ को एक झील (lake) के किनारे चलते समय अचानक एक
सोने की चूड़ी ( bangle) मिली ।
(Ek din ek baagh ko ek jheel ke kinaarey chaltey samay achaanak ek
sonay kee chudee milee.) One day, a Tiger while walking by the side of a lake , suddenly
found a gold bangle .
उसने जल्दी से चूड़ी उठाई ( picked up) और प्रलोभन ( allure/entice)
के लिए किसी को पकड़ने का निश्चय किया ।
(Usney jaldee se choodee oothaayee aur pralobhan ke liye
kisee ko pakadaney ka nishchay kiya.) He quickly picked up the bangle and he decided to catch someone to allure .
एक ब्राह्मण झील ( lake) के विपरीत (opposite) ओर से गुजरा ।
(Ek Brahmin jheel ke vipreet oar se gujara.)
A Brahman passed through the opposite side of the lake.
उसने ब्राह्मण को आकर्षित (attract) करने की योजना (plan) बनाई|
(Usney Brahmin ko aakarshit karney kee yojana banaayee.)
He planned (a scheme) to attract the Brahmin.
उसने अपने पंजे (paw) में चूड़ी को पकड़ी (held) और ब्राह्मण से पूछा (asked)
आप इस सोने की चूड़ी ( bangle) को ले जाना चाहेंगे ?
(Usney apney panjey mein choodee ko pakadee aur Brahmin se
poochhha aap kis soney kee chudee ko le jaana chaheyngey ?
He held the bangle in his paw and asked the Brahmin,would
you like to take this gold bangle?
मुझे इसकी आवश्यकता ( require) नहीं है ". तुरंत ब्राह्मण चूड़ी
लेना चाहता था, लेकिन वह बाघ के पास जाने में झिझका (hesitated) ।
(Mujhey iskee aavashyakta nahin hai. Turant Braahmin choodee
lenaa chahta tha, lekin vah baagh ke paas jaaney mein jhijhakaa.)
I don’t require it”. At once, the traveler(Brahmin) wanted to
take the bangle, but he hesitated to go near to the tiger. वह जानता था कि यह जोखिम (risky) भरा था, फिर भी उसने सोने ( gold)
की चूड़ी को चाहा |
(Vah jaanata tha ki yah jokhim bhara tha, fir bhee usney sonay
kee choodee ko chaahaa.)
He knew that it was was full of risk (risky ), yet he wanted the gold Bangle.
उसने सतर्क ( cautious) रहने की योजना बनाई , अतः उसने बाघ से पूछा,
"मैं तुम्हें कैसे विश्वास ( trust) कर सकता हूँ ?
मैं जानता हूँ कि तुम एक जानवर (animal/ beast) हो और मुझे मार (kill)
डालोगे ।
(Usney satark rahney kee yojnaa banaayee, atah usney baagh se poochha,
main tumhein kaise vishwaas kar sakta huun?
Main jaanata huun ki tum ek jaanwar ho aur mujhey maar daalogey. He planned to be cautious, so he asked the Tiger, “How can
I believe you? I know you are a beast and would kill me”.
चालाक बाघ ने मासूमियत (innocently) से कहा , कि एक साधु (saint) की
सलाह (advice) के आधार ( based) पर मैने सब बुराई ( evil/bad wise/habits) छोड़ दी है ,
इसके अलावा ( besides) , मैं बूढा (old) हो गया हूँ |
(Chaalaak baagh ney maasumiyat se kaha ki ek sadhu kee
salaah ke aadhaar par mainey sab buraayee chhod dee hai,
iskey alaawaa main boodhaa ho gaya huun.
The clever Tiger innocently said that based on an advice of
a hermit, I have left all evil, moreover, I have grown old.
मेरे दांत ( teeth) नहीं हैं और मेरे पंजे (claws) भोथड( blunt)
हो गए हैं अतः मुझसे डरने की आवश्यकता नहीं है|
(Merey daant nahin hain aur merey panjey bhothad ho gaye hain,
atah mujhsey darney kee aavashyakta nahin hai.)
I have no teeth and my claws are blunt, so, there is no need to
fear (from )me.
ब्राह्मण झील में कूदा (jumped) और बाघ को पार (cross) कर जाना चाहा ।
(Brahmin jheel mein kooda aur baagh ko paar karna chaaha.)
The Brahmin jumped into the lake and wanted to wade across the tiger.
बाघ ब्राह्मण को दलदल ( marsh) में फंसाने ( trap) में कामयाब( successful) हो गया |
(Baagh brahman ko daldal mein fansaaney mein kaamyaab ho gaya.)
The tiger was successful in getting the Brahmin trapped in the marsh.
बाघ ने उसे सांत्वना( consoled) दी और कहा, "ओह!
आपको चिंता ( worry) करने की जरूरत नहीं है ,मैं आपकी मदद( help) करूंगा ।
(Baagh ney usey saantwanaa dee aur kaha, Oh, aapko chintaa
karney kee jaruat nahin hai, main aapkee madad karungaa. ) The Tiger consoled him and said, “Oh! You need not worry.
I will help you”.
धीरे - धीरे ( gradually) वह ब्राह्मण की ओर आया
और उसे पकड़ (seized) लिया |
(Dheery dheerey vah brahman kee oar aaya aur
usey pakad liya.)
Gradually he came towards the Brahmin and seized him.
बाघ ने ब्राह्मण को मार डाला और उसे खा (ate) लिया|
(Baagh ney brahman ko maar daala aur usey khaa liya.)
The tiger killed the Brahmin and ate him up..
नैतिक ( moral ) शिक्षा : लालच का परिणाम ( result) बुरा होता है }. (Naitik
shikshaa: Laalach ka parinaam bura hota hai.) Moral lesson :
The result of greed is bad .
