Chawal - Rice चावल

Chana - Chik Peas चना

Sabzi - Vegetable सब्ज़ी

Achaar - Pickle अचार

Achaar does not refer to what Americans would think of as a “pickle”.  Instead, it is a vegetable/spice mixture that comes in all flavors.  Here is a picture several different pickles that I took in Dubai.

Aap Kaise Hain - How are you आप कैसे हैं

Aap ka naam kya hai - What is your name आप का नाम क्या है?

Aap Kahan Ja Rahe Hain - Where are you going आप कहाँ जा रहे हैं?

Shukriya - Thanks शुक्रिया

Bahut Bahut Shukriya - Thanks a lot बहुत बहुत शुक्रिया

Aapka Bahut Bahut Shukriya - Thank you so much आपका बहुत बहुत शुक्रिया

Pranaam - Kind of Namaste but used for much older or respectful people प्रणाम

Bahut Sahi - Very good! बहुत सही

Sahi - Nice! right सही

Aap ki Umr - Your age आप की उम्र

Aap ka Naam -Your name आप का नाम

Aap ka pata - Your address आप का पता

Aaj kaisa mausam hai - How is weather today आज कैसा मौसम है

Essential Hindi: Where are you?

    * “Where are you?” — KIDHAR HO TUM/ KAHAN HO TUM/ KAHAN HAIN AAP. किधर हो तुम? कहाँ हो तुम? कहाँ हैं आप?
    * “Can I sit here?” (If you are male, then say) –KYA MEIN YA-HAN BAT-H SAK-TA HOON क्या मैं यहाँ बैठ सकता हूँ?
    * “Can I sit here?” (If you are female, then say) –KYA MEIN YA-HAN BAT-H SAK-TE HOON क्या मैं यहाँ बैठ सकती हूँ?
I need to go– mujhe jaana hai/ mujhe jaana padega/ mujhe jaana hoga you need/have to go —- aap ko jaana hai , aap ko jaana padega, aapko jaana hoga, tumhe jaana hai, tujhe jaana hai I need a taxi, car, telephone, pen , etc—- mujhe ek taxi , kaar, phone, kalam/pen chaa-hi-ye
